CalPoly in San Luis Obispo invited Volume partner Eric Heiman to speak to the students in their Art and Design department. To a packed house, Eric rattled off “The New Rules. (Same as the Old Rules. Sort of.)”, including advice like “It’s okay to love what you love,” “Design voice ≠ visual style,” and “Compromise. Really.” (That last one really got the faculty going.) All due respect to the hour-long session of smart student questions immediately following. (Eric was very excited to talk about his indirect role in reuniting Steely Dan in the early 90’s.)
